On November 30 a representational American delegation headed by Assistant Secretary of Defence of the United States on security issues in Asia and the Pacific, Dr. Peter Levoy, arrived at Astana to discuss the plan of the Kazakh-American military cooperation for the coming five-year period (2013-2017).

The head of the U.S. delegation emphasized at the meeting with Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan Adilbek Dzhaksybekov that Kazakhstan had been a trusted partner for the United States at all times. “Therefore cooperation with Kazakhstan is one of the most important directions of our foreign policy. Cooperation with Kazakhstan is characterized by high dynamics and sincere partnership relations based on mutual interests, including the field of defence” Peter Levoy said.

The Armed Forces of Kazakhstan in turn conduct an active process of further development of cooperation. There had been done some work that was discussed in detail later in the bilateral consultations.

Development of the domestic military-industrial complex is one of the main priorities of bilateral cooperation. In this context, particular attention is paid to military-technical cooperation with foreign partners, including Member States of the North Atlantic Alliance.

In this regard, Peter Levoy noted the consistently high economic growth of Kazakhstan and expressed interest in full involvement of the potential of the Kazakh-US relations.

“Threats of the modern world are getting new forms, which dictate the need of new methods of counteraction – an active implementation of digital technology in the Armed Forces, creation of an appropriate level of information and digital infrastructure’s protection” Adilbek Dzhaksybekov said. “We are interested in the organization of joint ventures in our country.”

On completion of the event the parties expressed confidence in further fruitful work.
