IN SHORT :

The number of real estate transactions increased by 12% year-on-year in the first half 2011, the State Statistics Agency reported last week. The number of transactions in Almaty and Astana, in contrast, was nearly flat, down 0.1% in Almaty and up 1.5% in Astana.

Kazakhstan and Russia plan to build a new space launch complex called Baiterek by 2017, Interfax reported, citing Vladimir Popovkin, head of the Russian Space Agency. The new complex will be located on the territory of the Baikonur cosmodrome.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak will make an official visit to Kazakhstan in August, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said last week in a statement.

Kazakhstan has officially recognized South Sudan as an independent sovereign state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said last week.
