Last week the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States, Kairat Umarov, visited Phoenix and Mesa, Arizona. During his visit, the Ambassador had a number of meetings with the leadership and business representatives of the state.

At a meeting with the Governor of the State Janice Brewer, the sides discussed the prospects for trade and economic relations and development of cultural relations between Arizona and interested regions of Kazakhstan. Located in Arizona, the town of Tucson has established sister city relationships with Almaty.

Given the similarity of the climatic characteristics and the structure of the state’s economy and some regions of Kazakhstan, the Ambassador noted a good potential for expansion of mutual trade and investment and the exchange programs. Over the years of its development, Arizona was able not only to ensure the emergence of new processing sectors, which were created around the traditional industries (mining and export of copper, cotton, metals, etc.), but also develop the services sector (education, health care, financial services, etc.). This rapid growth induced many American corporations, such as  Boeing, Honeywell, Timken, etc. to establish its subsidiaries in the various cities of Arizona.

During his trip to Arizona, the Ambassador Umarov met with representatives of the companies Boeing, CAE-Oxford, Intel and others. Visiting the helicopters plant of Boeing, the sides discussed questions of technological and investment cooperation. Representatives of the company noted interest in the market of Kazakhstan, where the aircraft development has been gaining much attention during recent years.

Development of small aircraft is expected to boost demand for domestic experts and pilots at various levels and profiles. This topic was discussed during a visit to one of the leading flight school for pilots, CAE-Oxford, where training is provided to the young cadets from all over the world. The sides discussed the prospects of establishing a strategic partnership within the framework of existing and future projects of domestic companies.

Within the framework of the meetings with the business community sides also discussed the possible participation in the exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana and the implementation of joint projects on sustainable and diversified development of the national economy.
