Domestically, the government made several political changes, adopting an anticorruption program for 2015-2025 and orchestrating a major reorganization by clubbing together various agencies. It also established a few new ministries including the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Investments and Development and the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

Last but not the least, Kazakhstan glowed brightly on the world stage in the field of sports. Kazakhstan bolstered its bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics  in Almaty, and now is in direct competition with Beijing for the opportunity.  Kazakhstan’s athletes however immediately seized all opportunities that came their way this year, winning  a total of 84 medals (28 gold, 23 silver and 33 bronze) at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. Kazakhstan also came third place in the World Weightlifting Championship, where it played the host and where Ilya Iliyn, Kazakhstan’s most famous weightlifter, became the world champion for the 4th time. Kazakh boxer Gennedy Golovkin was recognized by Yahoo! Sports as 2014 Fighter of the Year.
